Reach Truck
In order to keep storage places orderly and to stock up pallets of goods and supplies, a reach truck could be used. The reach truck is available in quite a few models: the straddle reach, stand-up reach and the double-deep reach.
The simplest type is the stand-up. The forks of the truck slide beneath the pallet and move it to the appropriate storage place. The forks slide the pallet into place. This particular kind of reach truck is recommended when shelving units are one pallet in depth.
The double-deep reach truck is like the stand-up, but is best for workplaces where shelving units are deep enough to accommodate two pallets of goods. This version consists of telescopic forks designed to put the pallet at the back of the shelving unit. This eliminates the need to push the pallet back when another pallet has to go into the same shelving section.
Straddle reaches have the additional advantage of being able to not only slide underneath the pallet, but also to grasp the sides. These are suitable for workplaces where shelving units are accessible in many directions. This version is ideal in situations where goods will not be damaged if the pallet sides are grabbed.
In the majority of warehouses, there are usually more than one kind of reach truck. Manufacturing facilities and textile companies use different kinds of reach trucks in their supply areas. The reach truck is not difficult to operate and could maximize available storage space while increasing production.
