The forklift is a material handling machinery used to raise and transport loads from one location to another. Each forklift part has a particular function. Different parts could be utilized to transport the load horizontally or vertically.

Mast
The forklift mast refers to all the components that lower and lift the load. There are different kinds of masts for raising loads to various heights: triplex, quad, simplex and duplex.

Power Supply
Forklifts have four various ways of being powered: gas, electric, diesel and propane. The battery is located inside the cab underneath the seat. The propane tank is on the back of the truck. The fuel tank on gas and diesel forklifts is under the rear of the truck.

Cab
The forklift cab is situated in the middle of the truck. This is where the operator sits and accesses all the informational gauges and controls. The gas pedal, steering wheel, brake, lifting controls and tilting controls are all situated within the cab.

Frame
The truck frame carries all the largest components of the forklift, including the counterweights, which are situated at the back so as to stop the truck from tipping when loaded. The frame includes the overhead guard that protects the operator. The undercarriage holds the wheels, driveshaft and axles.
