History
During 1919, Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started. The company was founded by Anton Raky, an engineer and pioneer in oil drilling and modern drilling technology. The initial name of the company was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.
During 1937, the cornerstone for SMAG was laid when the manufacturing facility was obtained by the Salzgitter Group for making drilling machinery. During 1986, the company obtained the grab product division from Peiner AG. Immediately after, Peiner was developed into an international brand name in the following years. Presently, SMAG is the world's market leader, utilizing grabs for agriculture, waste disposal, and global cargo handling applications.
