Taylor Propane Forklifts Saskatchewan

Forklifts, when used in indoor applications, are typically operated on cushioned tires which are made out of solid rubber. The pneumatic style of tires is the perfect alternative for outdoor applications. Pneumatic tires are common for heavy cargo and could be used on asphalt surfaces and on dirt roads.

For the most part, propane powered equipment is believed to be safe. Propane has the reputation for being a clean burning fuel source. If the engine or machinery is not correctly tuned or maintained, then the propane powered engine can emit CO or carbon monoxide, along with other caustic oxides of nitrogen. Any internal engine that is not in optional working form could have a similar situation happen. These emitted gases can be extremely harmful in incorrectly ventilated or confined spaces.

Propane units emit less harmful gases than gasoline and diesel powered lift trucks. Propane's chemical structure is quite simple. Because it is a gas, propane mixes well with air, compared to diesel or gasoline and burns at a low temperature. Caustic oxides of nitrogen created during propane combustion in the engine are less compared to those emitted by a diesel or gas engine. Therefore, a propane lift truck's engine normally lasts much longer than a gasoline or diesel powered forklift unit.

IC engines work by sucking in air from the surrounding area. This air reacts with the fuel causing it to burn. A 60 horse-power forklift should breath in 5000 cubic feet of air per minute in order to operate. Before operation, it is recommended to switch on a propane lift truck outside and allow it warm up for a bit. This is because of the carbon monoxide emissions since they read higher from a cold propane-powered engine or machinery and become less intoxicating once the machine has had a chance to warm up.

It is essential to note that electric or battery powered lift trucks could not be utilized outdoors in the rain for fear of battery damage if they get wet. A hazardous situation can occur as an electric lift truck can short out because of rainwater getting in.

Propane lift trucks on the other hand work well in the rain. The propane is stored in sealed tanks that are placed on the back of the lift truck. This means there is no possibility of a rainstorm interrupting an operator's work. Propane lift trucks are extremely versatile and could be used both outdoors and indoors. Gasoline and diesel powered forklifts could accidentally suffocate you with harmful gases if they are used inside. A correctly tuned up and well maintained forklift is a great way to safely and effectively handle your loads.
